Some itchy dogs aren’t just itchy. Their skin is angry. Bright red, hot to the touch, raw from scratching, and the itch is so intense they can’t settle. These are my “flare dogs”, and they often need a slightly different approach to the steady, slow-burn allergy cases.
In Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine this pattern is called heat in the Blood. In plain English: there’s so much inflammation sitting in the skin that the body can’t cool it down on its own. And here’s the tricky bit. The herbs that boost circulation to help skin heal can actually ramp the itch up when skin is this inflamed.
That’s where ImmunoBalm comes in. It’s a Dr Steve Marsden herbal formula designed to “cool the Blood”, supporting healthy skin circulation and a healthy inflammatory response. It’s often used alongside Cessorex, so the deeper immune and gut work can happen without making the itch worse.
Quick heads up: despite the name, ImmunoBalm isn’t a cream. It’s a concentrated herbal powder you add to food.
The root of most allergy dogs is still the gut. Gut dysbiosis leads to leaky gut, immune overactivation and inflammation that shows up on the skin. ImmunoBalm helps calm the fire on the surface while we work on fixing the foundations underneath.
For hot, inflamed allergy flares I usually recommend pairing ImmunoBalm with:
Cessorex (to rebalance the immune system and gut-driven inflammation, the long game)
Gut Restore and Gut Protect (to address the gut dysbiosis driving the immune response)
Pure Colostrum (to support gut barrier function and calm immune overreaction)
MicroMed Topical Spray (for soothing the skin on the outside while the internal work happens)
Results take time. This isn’t a drug, it’s a healing process, and it works best alongside a species-appropriate diet and a reduced chemical load.
Best for dogs with:
Red, hot, inflamed skin that looks angry rather than just dry or flaky
Intense itch that keeps them up at night or has them chewing themselves raw
Recurring hot spots
Allergy flares that get itchier when starting Cessorex or other circulation-supporting herbs
Allergy dogs who need extra support through flare seasons
Always work with your vet for severe, infected or rapidly worsening skin conditions.
Created by leading holistic veterinarian Dr Steve Marsden (USA) and produced by Gold Standard Herbs, ImmunoBalm is an organically grown herbal formula designed to support dogs whose skin is red, hot and intensely itchy.
When skin inflammation runs this hot, it can feel like you’re stuck. Calming the skin needs better blood flow, but better blood flow can fuel more itch. Conventional options often suppress the reaction for a while, but they don’t change why the skin is so reactive in the first place.
ImmunoBalm takes a different approach:
Cools inflamed skin: uses herbs traditionally relied on for centuries to clear heat from the Blood.
Supports healthy skin circulation: without stirring up more itch.
Supports a healthy inflammatory response: helping the body settle the flare rather than just masking it.
Works as a team player: allows formulas like Cessorex to support a healthy allergy response without increasing itch.
What to look for Every dog is different, so keep an eye on the signs that matter most: redness fading, skin feeling less hot, less scratching and licking, and a dog who finally settles at night. Taking a quick photo of the worst patch each week makes progress much easier to spot.
Why it matters
Calming the heat can make a dog comfortable enough for the deeper gut and immune healing to happen.
It gives you a gentle, herbal option to discuss with your vet alongside or instead of conventional itch relief.
Results are even stronger when paired with a real food diet rich in fresh meats and vegetables.
Ingredients:
Rehmannia root
Honeysuckle flower
Scrophularia root
Coptis root
Forsythia fruit
Salvia root
Lophatherum
Ophiopogon root
Red Peony root
Jujube
Rhubarb root and rhizome
A classic cooling combination: honeysuckle, forsythia and coptis are traditionally used to clear heat, rehmannia, scrophularia and ophiopogon to cool and nourish, and salvia and red peony to support healthy circulation.
Dosage ImmunoBalm is an organically grown concentrated herbal extract in powdered form. It works more quickly and completely if your dog is fed a real food meat- and vegetable-based diet.
To use, fold the herbs into your dog’s real food meal, mix with a little butter, or shake them up with broth or water and pour over the top.
As a suggested starting dose, give twice daily as follows:
Up to 7 kg: ⅛ tsp
7 to 18 kg: ¼ tsp
18 to 32 kg: ½ tsp
32 to 50 kg: ¾ tsp
Over 50 kg: 1 tsp
If benefits are not seen, the dose can be safely doubled.
One 85 g bottle of ImmunoBalm lasts over a month for dogs up to about 23 kg, and about two weeks for dogs around 45 kg.
Good to know
ImmunoBalm is a strongly cooling formula. It’s not the best fit for dogs with ongoing loose stools, poor appetite, or dogs that run “cold” (seek warmth, low energy).
It contains rhubarb root, which can loosen stools. If this happens, drop back to a lower dose.
Not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs.
Check with your vet first if your dog is on medication, especially blood thinners or immune-suppressing drugs like cyclosporine, or is due for surgery.
The bottom line ImmunoBalm helps take the heat out of red, angry, itchy skin so your dog can get some relief while the real healing happens underneath. Paired with Cessorex and a gut-first approach, it can help turn the corner for dogs stuck in the flare cycle.
