A simple, plant-based way to add calcium to home-prepared meals. This odourless powder is made from marine algae harvested in the North Atlantic, and it carries calcium alongside magnesium and other naturally occurring trace minerals. If you feed a boneless raw or cooked diet, calcium is the one thing you cannot skip, and this makes balancing it easy.

Why it matters

When you feed fresh, home-prepared meals without bone, the diet is naturally low in calcium and high in phosphorus. Left unbalanced, that ratio can cause problems over time, especially in growing pups. A calcium source corrects the balance so the rest of the meal can do its job.

This product can help:

  • Balance calcium in boneless raw or cooked home-prepared diets
  • Correct the calcium to phosphorus ratio in meat-heavy meals
  • Support strong bones, teeth and muscle function
  • Support healthy growth in puppies (with correct dosing, see note below)
  • Support older dogs who may be starting to lose bone density

What's in it

  • Marine algae (Lithothamnium species), naturally around 33% calcium
  • Magnesium and trace minerals that occur naturally in the algae
  • No gluten, sugar, soy, grains, dairy, eggs, added flavours, colours or preservatives
  • 100% plant-based and odourless

How to use it

Sprinkle on or mix through food. One level scoop (included) provides roughly 225mg of calcium.

As a general daily guide for home-prepared diets:

  • Adult dogs: about 1 scoop per 5kg bodyweight
  • Growing puppies: about 2 scoops per 5kg bodyweight

If your dog has a sensitive stomach, start low and build up gradually.

For my clients following one of my recipes, ignore the bodyweight chart and use the calcium amount I have specified in your plan. Recipe-based dosing is more accurate than dosing by bodyweight, because two dogs the same size can eat very different amounts of food.

Kat's note

This is one of my go-to calcium sources for boneless feeding. I like that it is plant-based and comes with a little magnesium and trace minerals along for the ride, rather than being calcium on its own. It is gentle, easy to dose, and dogs do not notice it in the bowl.

If you feed a properly balanced raw diet that already includes raw meaty bones, you usually do not need this. It earns its place when the meal has no bone, when you are cooking, or when you are following a specific recipe from me that calls for it.

Cautions

  • Use only as directed
  • For pregnant or lactating animals, large breed puppies, or any dog with a health condition affecting calcium, check dosing with me
  • Stop use and seek advice if any irritation occurs
  • Store below 30 degrees in a cool, dry place
